Be Still 7/26/26

Psalm 46

 

A. God is our Refuge of Strength vv1-3

1. Hyperbole – exaggeration to make a point Mat 5:29-30, Luk 14:26

2. God is greater than the world, after all He created it

3. So, we should not fear Mat 10:28

4. But we should depend on His strength not ours 

Phi 4:13

 

B. God is our River of Joy vv4-7

1. Our suffering is short-lived

2. The river: past and future Gen 2, 2Kin 18-19, Isa 36-37, Rev 22:1-2

3. He stops war with just His voice, just like creation

4. We have a personal relationship with the LORD of Hosts

 

C. God is our God vv8-11 Isa 2:4, Rev 21:4, Isa 45:23

1. He promises, He will be exalted

2. LORD Almighty, personal and powerful

3. He keeps His promises

4. So be still and know that He is God

 

D. YBH? Yes, But How?

1. General Rules Rom 12:2

a. Quality and quantity

b. Resulting in transformation

2. Be Still – remember the 4 ‘M’s Luk 10:41-42, Mat 6:33

3. Listen – God whispers 1Kin 19:11-12

4. Abide – don’t visit God, live with Him Joh 15:4-5

a. ReNot trying harder, simply staying connected

b. His strength, our willingness

5. Accept – whatever happened, happened Phi 4:11-13

a. We can either accept it, or let it tear us apart

b. If we accept

i. What is the lesson here?

ii. How can I use it to glorify God?
