1. God raises us, we cannot raise ourselves
2. So we should, shift our focus
3. From below to above, with heart and mind, ongoing action
B. The Old Ways vv3-9 2Cor 4:17
1. You died to the old way: born again, complete change of life
2. Hidden in Christ, righteous not in ourselves but in Christ
a. In His life, In His righteousness – present
b. In glory with Him – future
3. So kill off the old ways, our earthly nature
a. Lust, greed, remember there will be judgment
b. Negative emotions, negative talk, don’t lie
4. Since you have taken off the old self

1. Take off the old, put on the new self
a. Metaphor of wearing Christ vv10, 12, 14
b. Being renewed, ongoing process, done to us, with availability

2. The Chosen are in equality, no longer just the Jews
a. Not race, religious practice, civilized or not, slave or not
b. Human distinctions have no place in Christ
3. So, practice the new ways
a. Positive emotions
b. Forgive as the Lord forgave you

Code of Conduct for Members of the United States Armed Forces

I
I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am
prepared to give my life in their defense.

I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender the members
of my command while they still have the means to resist.

If I am captured I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to
escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the
enemy.
IV
If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no
information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior,
I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me and will
back them up in every way.
V
When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am required to give name, rank,
service number and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of
my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or
harmful to their cause.

I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and
dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the

ARTICLE 3
COVENANT

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus
Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized by
immersion in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do
now, in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully
enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian
love; to strive for the advancement of this Church, in knowledge, holiness, and
comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship,
ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the
support of the ministry, the expenses of the Church, the relief of the poor, and the
spread of the gospel through all nations.
We also engage to maintain family and personal devotions, to religiously educate
our children, to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk
prudently in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagement, and
exemplary in our conduct; to avoid all tattling, gossiping and excessive anger; to
abstain from the use of intoxicating drinks as beverage, to use the Holy Scripture to
influence and combat the abuse of drugs and the spread of pornography; and to be
zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.
We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one
another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian
sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in our speech; to be slow to take
offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior
to secure it without delay.
We moreover engage that when we as individuals remove from this location we
will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the
spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
